Researchers tested whether an AI tool called Teach1 could assess the quality of feedback that instructors gave to medical students learning a surgical procedure (paracentesis) on simulators. Higher-quality feedback — particularly reinforcing strengths and suggesting specific improvements — strongly predicted greater skill gains, with every 10% improvement in feedback quality corresponding to a measurable score increase. This shows that AI can objectively grade instructor feedback quality at scale, offering a practical way to improve surgical training outcomes.
